Morning Offering
O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen
Daily Prayer & Reading for December 5, 2022
Warm my heart, Lord. Help me to accept new things. Too often I reject new ideas, new people and new opportunities out of fear or even laziness. Be with me when I venture into the unknown and help me to realize that change can be good. Amen.

Luke 5: 17-26
One day as Jesus was teaching,
Pharisees and teachers of the law,
who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem,
were sitting there,
and the power of the Lord was with him for healing.
And some men brought on a stretcher a man who was paralyzed;
they were trying to bring him in and set him in his presence.
But not finding a way to bring him in because of the crowd,
they went up on the roof
and lowered him on the stretcher through the tiles
into the middle in front of Jesus.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said,
“As for you, your sins are forgiven.”
Then the scribes and Pharisees began to ask themselves,
“Who is this who speaks blasphemies?
Who but God alone can forgive sins?”
Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them in reply,
“What are you thinking in your hearts?
Which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’
or to say, ‘Rise and walk’?
But that you may know
that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”–
he said to the one who was paralyzed,
“I say to you, rise, pick up your stretcher, and go home.”
He stood up immediately before them,
picked up what he had been lying on,
and went home, glorifying God.
Then astonishment seized them all and they glorified God,
and, struck with awe, they said,
“We have seen incredible things today.”

Fortalece mi corazón, Señor. Ayúdame a aceptar lo nuevo. Con demasiada frecuencia rechazo nuevas ideas, nuevas personas y nuevas oportunidades por miedo o incluso por pereza. Acompáñame cuando me aventuro a lo desconocido y ayúdame a darme cuenta de que el cambio puede ser bueno. Amén.

Lc 5, 17-26
Un día Jesús estaba enseñando y estaban también sentados ahí algunos fariseos y doctores de la ley, venidos de todas las aldeas de Galilea, de Judea y de Jerusalén. El poder del Señor estaba con él para que hiciera curaciones.
Llegaron unos hombres que traían en una camilla a un paralítico y trataban de entrar, para colocarlo delante de él; pero como no encontraban por dónde meterlo a causa de la muchedumbre, subieron al techo y por entre las tejas lo descolgaron en la camilla y se lo pusieron delante a Jesús. Cuando él vio la fe de aquellos hombres, dijo al paralítico: “Amigo mío, se te perdonan tus pecados”.
Entonces los escribas y fariseos comenzaron a pensar: “¿Quién es este individuo que así blasfema? ¿Quién, sino sólo Dios, puede perdonar los pecados?” Jesús, conociendo sus pensamientos, les replicó: “¿Qué están pensando? ¿Qué es más fácil decir: ‘Se te perdonan tus pecados’ o ‘Levántate y anda’? Pues para que vean que el Hijo del hombre tiene poder en la tierra para perdonar los pecados –dijo entonces al paralítico–: Yo te lo mando: levántate, toma tu camilla y vete a tu casa”.
El paralítico se levantó inmediatamente, en presencia de todos, tomó la camilla donde había estado tendido y se fue a su casa glorificando a Dios. Todos quedaron atónitos y daban gloria a Dios, y llenos de temor, decían: “Hoy hemos visto maravillas”.
The Oblates in Sri Lanka are praying for you
The Missionary Oblates arrived in Sri Lanka 175 years ago when the Oblate Founder, St. Eugene De Mazenod, sent four missionaries to the tiny island.
The early Oblates in Sri Lanka were excellent at finding creative ways to serve the spiritual and physical needs of the poor on the island. They constructed numerous churches and several Catholic institutions as well as trained many indigenous clergy. Saint Eugene was so impressed by the work of the pioneer Oblates in Sri Lanka that within 15 years he had sent 31 more Oblates from Europe to serve in the country.
In the early days of the mission, most of the Oblates were parish priests or managers of dioceses. Eventually, they branched out to new forms of serving the poor through other avenues of evangelization, social rehabilitation, psychological counseling, as well as caring for the displaced, refugees, orphans, widows and school dropouts.
Youth ministries have also been at the forefront of the Oblates’ work in Sri Lanka. Today they run several orphanages and technical schools for poor children.
From four missionaries 175 years ago, the Sri Lanka mission now consists of 266 Oblates, the largest religious congregation of men in the country. More than 70 of these Oblates are seminarians, a hopeful sign for the future of the missions. The Sri Lankan Oblates have established missions in recent years to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh and have also sent missionaries to countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.
“The Oblate vocation is ever fresh and relevant to the present time, even when times are fast changing and new needs are arising,” said Fr. Paul. “The 175th Anniversary celebration this year will bring an awareness of the pioneering spirit of our Oblate missionaries of the past and inspire the present Oblates to venture into the future trusting in God and in themselves.”
