Daily Prayer
Good and Gracious God, You so desired to be with us that You sent Your Only Begotten Son. He was born in a manger and revealed by a star only to shepherds and Wise Men. Grant that we may recognize in every encounter Your Son Jesus. Amen

Reflection
Jesus is always somewhat apart from the people, an outsider, a foreigner.
He was poor, born in a manger. That manger was in Bethlehem, not too many miles from Jerusalem but a village vastly different from that great city. Bethlehem was the “least among the clans of Judah” (Micah 5:1) while Jerusalem was the capital and spiritual center of the Jewish people.
Jesus’ message of “Good News” was strange, foreign. He preached to the poor and outcast, not to the wealthy or priestly classes. He ultimately died outside the city of Jerusalem on the hill of Calvary.
Reflection Questions
Do I fully welcome the foreigner Jesus in my home and heart?
Do I speak up for Jesus with courage and conviction?
What can I do today to bear witness to my belief in Jesus and His great love for me?
