Lenten Reflection for 2/15

Thursday after Ash Wednesday

Daily Prayer

Lord Jesus, You chose the desert as a place to set a direction in Your life and listen to Your Father’s will for You. Help us this Lent as we struggle with our own self-centeredness and self-will. Lead us to an oasis where we joyfully accept Your Father’s will. Help us to remember the salvation bought for us by Your cross as we travel with You on the holy journey of Lent. Amen

Scripture Readings

Deuteronomy 30:15-20; Luke 9:22-25

Scripture Quote

Luke 9:23-24

Then he [Jesus] said to all:
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.”

Reflection

Lent began only yesterday and already Jesus is calling us to take up His cross and be His disciple. Our first step is to do as Jesus did at the start of His ministry by going into the desert for forty days to face our demons. There we must deny our very self by giving up any distraction that hinders us from doing God’s will. There we must undergo metanoia, have a conversion of the heart and an awakening to the presence of God’s love.

This conversion can only come in the desert of our Inner Room. We can go into this desert if there is someone who loves us immensely who will help us through. In Jesus’ journey to His cross, He was held by His Father who loved him. In our journey, we are held by Jesus and by God who loves us.

Reflection Questions

How can I reflect today on the depth of God’s love for me?

In what ways can my actions today be life-giving for the people around me?
