Daily Prayer and Reading 10/31

October 31, 2022

As we give sweets and other goodies to children today, Lord, help us to remember that we should also provide for the poor and needy people of the world. Help us to give freely of our time and money so that the poor might be nourished in body, mind and spirit. Amen.

Luke 14:12-14

On a sabbath Jesus went to dine
at the home of one of the leading Pharisees.
He said to the host who invited him,
“When you hold a lunch or a dinner,
do not invite your friends or your brothers or sisters
or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors,
in case they may invite you back and you have repayment.
Rather, when you hold a banquet,
invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind;
blessed indeed will you be because of their inability to repay you.
For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

This week the Oblates in Madagascar are praying for you.

One of these priests is Fr. Adam Szul.  He and four other Oblates work in Antananarivo where they cover 31 small villages that otherwise would never see a priest.  In addition to pastoral work, these Oblates manage schools and also work with the mentally disabled, physically handicapped and youth groups.  “We respond to those who request our involvement,” said Fr. Adam.  “Our goal is to work where the need is greatest.”
