Daily Prayer and Reading 1/16

Morning Offering

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day

Lord, You send messengers to us who preach the Gospel in compelling ways. Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., one of Your faithful servants who taught the world to respect each other through his gentleness and patience. Help us to continue to hear and carry out his prophetic message. Amen.

Mark 2: 18-22

The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were accustomed to fast.
People came to Jesus and objected,
“Why do the disciples of John and the disciples of the Pharisees fast,
but your disciples do not fast?”
Jesus answered them,
“Can the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them?
As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast.
But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast on that day.
No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak.
If he does, its fullness pulls away,
the new from the old, and the tear gets worse.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins,
and both the wine and the skins are ruined.
Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins.”

Mc 2, 18-22

A vino nuevo, odres nuevos”.

This week the Oblates in Ireland are Praying for you.

One of the places you are being prayed for is at Our Lady of the Sea and St. Winefride Parish on the island of Anglesey in the Irish Sea. The church is in the shape of an upside down boat and is considered an architectural treasure. It was closed for several years because of safety concerns, but the Oblates in Great Britain raised the money to fix it up and it is fully operational today.

Take the next step to strengthen your prayer life

We all could use some healing in our life. And prayer is the best way for us to communicate our needs with God.

Healing Prayers is a wonderful prayer book created by the Missionary Oblates for all those who long for the healing power of the Lord. For these persons, this prayer book has been written in faith and hope that, united in prayer, we might all experience healing of body, mind and spirit in every aspect of our lives.
