Daily Prayer 5/21

Feast Day of Saint Eugene de Mazenod

Morning Offering:

O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer You my prayers, works,
joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of Your Sacred Heart, in
union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the
salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians. In
particular, we offer up the intentions of the Holy Father this month for the
formation of religious and seminarians. We pray that religious women and
men, and seminarians, grow in their own vocations through their human,
pastoral, spiritual and community formation, leading them to be credible
witnesses to the gospel. Amen

Daily Prayer:

Good and gracious God, on this feast day of St. Eugene, grant us the same love
Saint Eugene had, so we may see the poor and abandoned through the eyes of
Jesus our Saviour. Help us accompany them to the resurrection. We ask this
through Christ the Lord. Amen.

Saint Eugene De Mazenod was born into an aristocratic French family in 1782.
The French Revolution forced his family into exile. At age 20 Eugene was able
to return to Aix-en-Provence where he gave himself over to the pleasures of
this world. But in 1807, he had a profound religious experience, and he
committed himself to Christ and the Church.
As a young priest Eugene was appalled by the condition of the Church in
southern France. The poor were being neglected. In response, in 1816 Eugene
gathered around him a small group of priests and began to preach directly to
the poor. Eventually this small band became the Missionary Oblates of Mary
Immaculate.

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate spread the Good News of
salvation and spend their lives in service to the poor and abandoned in our
missions in 70 countries around the world. Will you support the Missionary
Oblates today as we minister to people in poverty?
