Almighty God, who has given us every blessing, You continuously call us to renew our lives during Lent. Kindle the faith of the people You have made Your own. Grant that the gifts You give us, and which we now offer back to You, free us from our sinful ways and bring us new life. Amen

Scripture Quote

Matthew 5:24

[Jesus said to his disciples:]
“Leave your gift there at the altar,
go first and be reconciled with your brother,
and then come and offer your gift.”

Reflection

God subtly reminds us that to get to heaven we must renounce our old self with its petty bickering. How do we do that? We must reconcile ourselves with our brothers and sisters. We must offer love and forgiveness to those who wronged us, and not give in to anger, bitterness or self-pity. We must love our neighbor as oneself. Only then will we be fit to lay gifts at His altar or reside in His kingdom in heaven.

Reflection Questions

Do I worship God regularly?
What can I do to make peace with someone in my life with whom I need to be reconciled?
